Introduction / History

The Yurutis live southwest of Mitu, in the department of Vaup s in Colombia. They speak Wajiara.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Yurutis live in single-family homes and work is divided by gender. Yuruti men often marry women from the Sirian, Tucano or Bara tribes. Most Yurutis are cassava farmers who also fish and keep a small number of livestock for their food.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Yuruti worldview is centered on water. They believe that before they were people, they were fish people. Roman Catholic missionaries and SIL both have a strong presence among the Yurutis.

What Are Their Needs?

The Yurutis have challenges from outsiders who are drilling for oil, loggers and animal trappers in their homeland.

Prayer Points

Pray for openness and opportunities to minister among the Yurutis.
Pray for laborers who can be involved in both evangelism and human needs projects, water systems and clinics.
Pray for a spiritual hunger that will bring the Yurutis to the foot of the cross.
