Introduction / History

The Vanambre language is spoken in several villages of the Sumka District of Madang Province, about 60 kilometers (40 miles) west of Karkar Island. All of the local people use Vanambre as their primary language, but they have no scripture in their language.
Nearby people have the scriptures. The Usan to the south have the New Testament (see scripture Earth). Work is underway on the Pamosu New Testament to the north. The Pamosu language belongs to the same language family as the Vanambre language, and it is likely that there are some who speak both languages.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The locals raise livestock, grow betel nut, food crops, coconut and cocoa. They can earn relatively higher incomes from selling cocoa.

What Are Their Beliefs?

A high percentage are Evangelicals.

What Are Their Needs?

They lack a Bible in their own language.

Prayer Points

Give thanks to God that Bible translation work has been happening in neighboring language groups.
Ask God to thrust out more workers to pray for the Vanambre group, to give and to go and serve with them in the work of Bible translation.
Please pray for their physical and material well-being.
