Introduction / History

The Ngomba refers to people who speak one of several languages in Cameroon. In the western and northwestern parts of Cameroon, languages and ethnic groups are often named after their villages.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Ngombas have a high starch diet with such foods as casava, rice, yams and plantains. Few have access to domestic livestock, so their protein comes from wild game, fish, caterpillars and insects.

They once lived in clay or straw homes, but now most live in brick houses.

The Ngombas have their own dance and music which is associated with their daily lives. They often get together to sing and dance around a fire. Sports are almost aways for men. They have contests for throwing javelins and spears. Their contests also involve canoes. Wrestling is another popular sport.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Though about three-fourths are Christian, only a tiny number are Evangelical. Mixed with Christianity are traditional beliefs. They believe in a creator God named Akongo Libanja and two gods who are just below him. One of these is Asuka, an intermediary between Akongo Libanja and humanity.

What Are Their Needs?

The Ngombas need adequate medical facilities in their region.

Pray for the Holy Spirit to move in Ngomba churches, giving them the will to follow Christ will all their hearts and minds.
Pray for Ngomba disciples who will make sure the gospel gets spread in word and deed.
Pray for an abundant harvest that will help them understand that only God has power and goodness.
