Introduction / History

The Desanos are an indigenous group in Colombia.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Desano homes double as ceremonial centers.

They are skilled artisans, but most make their living through farming rather than selling hand-made goods. Cassava is their main crop, but they also grow bananas, yams, corn and sugarcane. Some have small orchards.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Desanos are shamanistic. They look to the shaman for spiritual power and guidance in their uncertain world. Most remain animistic, but there is a Christian presence among them, mostly from the Roman Catholics. There are also some Evangelicals.

What Are Their Needs?

The Desanos need a spirituality based on the finished work of Christ. Christ alone can save and guide them.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Holy Spirit to draw Desano family leaders to the throne of grace and use them to transform their communities.
Pray that soon, Desano disciples will be making more disciples.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to move mightily in their churches through healings and power encounters.
