Introduction / History

In each Latin American country, including Argentina, some intermarried between the European colonizers and the indigenous peoples. Their children were called mestizos, and culturally they could be European, Indigenous, or somewhere in between.

Some Europeans remained separate from the indigenous peoples. They might identify with their country, while a small minority identify with Spain. Argentina is a Latin American country with a high percentage of White people, since there were not many indigenous peoples in this part of the Americas when the Spanish arrived.

What Are Their Lives Like?

In general, Whites in Latin America have higher-paying jobs and more status than the indigenous peoples. This isn t always the case; some have low-paying jobs or they are unemployed. Whites are more likely to have educational opportunities than their indigenous counterparts. This is also true in Argentina.

White Argentinians are usually Roman Catholic, but they also have a strong Evangelical minority, especially in Argentina.
