Introduction / History

The Arawum people live on the Rai coast of Madang Province, about fifty kilometers or thirty miles south of Madang town, the provincial capital.
Thank God that their eastern neighbors, the Siroi people, have the New Testament and portions of the Old Testament. This is a blessing for the Arawum people, who all speak the Siroi language as a second language. Half the Siroi population can read and comprehend the Siroi language, but very few Arawum can read and comprehend in any language.

What Are Their Lives Like?

They have road access to medical and education services in Madang. However, the road trip can take four hours in the dry season and can become impassable in the wet season because of flooding.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The small population of the Arawum people are precious to Jesus. All of them identify as Christians, yet they do not have God's word in their primary language of Taupi. Without God's word, they find it difficult to relate to God and they are vulnerable to being deceived.

What Are Their Needs?

They need education opportunities to improve so that they can understand the written scriptures for themselves.

Prayer Points

Ask the Lord of the harvest to provide workers to bring audio scriptures or oral Bible stories to the Arawum people in a language that they understand well.
