The Dzodinka people are an indigenous ethnolinguistic group of Cameroon, located in the North?West Region in the Donga?Mantung Division near the border with Nigeria. The Dzodinka are part of the Bantu, Cameroon?Bamileke people cluster and speak the Grassfields language known as Dzodinka or Lidzonka, which belongs to the Eastern Grassfields subgroup of Southern Bantoid languages. Historically, their identity and language have been sustained in a relatively small, rural area even as neighboring languages and cultures surround them, reflecting deep roots in the Western High Plateau of Cameroon.
Most Dzodinka people live in small rural villages where everyday life centers on farming, family, and community relationships. Agricultural activities such as tending small plots of crops and participating in local markets are central to supporting family needs, while limited infrastructure means that access to services like formal education, healthcare, and transportation is often distant or minimal. Their daily routines are shaped by the rhythms of planting and harvest seasons, interwoven with the traditions and community obligations that characterize rural life.
A majority of Dzodinka people identify with Christianity, and many in the community describe themselves as Christian adherents. While Christianity has made inroads, deep and committed engagement with biblical Christian faith is limited within the group. Traditional cultural and religious practices may still influence spiritual perspectives alongside nominal Christian identification, due in part to the small size of existing Christian ministries and limited availability of Christian resources in their heart language.
The Dzodinka need greater access to Scripture and discipleship materials in Lidzonka so that the message of the gospel can be understood in their mother tongue rather than through second?hand languages. They would benefit from local church planting and sustained ministry that helps nurture committed believers and forms self?sustaining Christian communities rooted in biblical teaching. In addition to spiritual needs, the community could gain from improved access to education and development resources, which are often limited in rural settings and affect both social well?being and receptivity to sustained discipleship efforts.
Pray that God would raise up workers and resources to support Bible translation and discipleship in the Dzodinka (Lidzonka) language, helping these believers and seekers engage deeply with God's word.
Ask God to stir the hearts of Dzodinka individuals toward genuine spiritual hunger so that the seeds of the gospel take root and grow in their communities and spread to others.
Pray for the establishment of local, Christ?centered church communities that reflect the love of Christ and become sources of hope, transformation, and discipleship among the broader population.
