Introduction / History

Ahar people consider themselves to be Brahmin, but real Brahmins do not like to mingle with them. Others consider them to be shudras, a low-status servant caste. Whatever their status they have in human terms, they are equal to all others in the eyes of the living God.
Most Ahar people live in India, but there is a small number of them in Nepal.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Ahar are usually the people who own most of the land in the areas where they live. Ahar don't take up menial work as a vocation and are thus ranked above the other working castes in the ritual caste hierarchy.

What Are Their Beliefs?

They are Hindu by faith and worship Narsingdeo, their family deity and Ganwat, their village deity.

What Are Their Needs?

Ahar leaders feel no need for a savior. They need the eyes of their hearts to be opened to the glories of the risen Lord.

Prayer Points

Pray the Lord will give Ahar families understanding and responsive hearts as they hear about the love of Christ. Prayer will be needed to prepare hearts.
Pray Ahar people will have power to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.
Pray they will deeply experience their need for forgiveness of sin, and for power to live this life.
Pray for Scripture materials in both printed and recorded form, as well as for other materials to help them become firmly established in the faith.
Pray the Ahar caste will not be satisfied with their own righteousness.
