The Lama are a subgroup of the greater Monpa people. Other subgroups include the Memba, Miji and Sherdukpen. They live in India’s northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh.
They are subsistence farmers who grow rice, millet and maize. They raise livestock, especially yaks and sheep.
Lama religion reflects their closeness to nature. They follow a form of Buddhism (Tibetan Buddhism) which combines Buddhist practices with Bon, an ancient form of shamanism. They worship at the Tawang Monastery and other places of Buddhist worship.
The Lama people are faced with the challenge of development projects in their homeland. Dams and roads can bring modernization to their land, but they also bring disruption.
They are also pressured to conform to the cultural and linguistic practices of the dominant Assamese and Hindu cultures. To address these issues then have community-led initiatives to protect them from development projects that threaten their way of life.
Pray the Lama would see they can enjoy abundant life if they put their trust in Jesus Christ.
Pray for the Lord to intervene in their families, calling people to his side and blessing them in every way.
Pray for Holy Spirit sent workers.
Pray for their hearts to be drawn to the Lord of lords.
Pray for the birth of an unstoppable church planting movement.
Scripture Prayers for the Lama in India.
