Introduction / History

The Kumalu speaking people live alongside the Lae-Bulolo highway, which has recently been upgraded.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Economically, they are doing well. The Lae-Bulolo highway has recently been upgraded. Their land is fertile and well connected to markets. High incomes are available from the sale of food and coffee. There are also opportunities to earn wages in mining and forestry further to the south near Bulolo. While the Kumalu all prefer their own language, many can speak Tok Pisin by virtue of their frequent interactions with others along the highway.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Almost all the Kumalu people are Christian, but they need full access to the word.

What Are Their Needs?

An ever-present danger for the Kumalu people is the Kumalu River, around which they are settled. The river tends to flood unpredictably, causing great damage to the Kumalu highway. Floodwaters carry mud, sand and even huge rocks, which can destroy homes, shops and churches. Please pray for their safety and well-being.

Prayer Points

Thank God that almost half the population can also read and write in Tok Pisin!
Pray that those who are literate will love and share the message of Jesus from the Tok Pisin scriptures.
Ask the Lord of the harvest for workers to bring God's word to all the people through their own language.
