Introduction / History

The Tolpans live in northwestern Honduras. They are also known as Jicaque, and they speak the Tola language.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Tolpans grow manioc, corn, black beans, fish, and hunt for their food. They also grow coffee, bananas, and tobacco as cash crops. Their culture is similar to that of the Miskito and Sumu tribes, which also reside in Honduras. In the 1800s, Manuel Jes s de Subirian, a Jesuit missionary, encouraged them to assimilate with the dominant culture and take up agriculture.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Most Tolpans are officially Roman Catholic, but they have an Evangelical minority, especially in Honduras.

What Are Their Needs?

The Tolpans need easily accessible clinics for medical emergencies.

Prayer Items

Pray for the Holy Spirit to move powerfully among every Tolpan family and church in the coming years.
Pray that soon Tolpans will be taking Christ to those who have not had the opportunity to hear of his glory and goodness.
Pray for the Lord to abundantly bless the Tolpans spiritually and economically as a sign of his goodness and power.
