Introduction / History

Kombe is the language of the Ngumbi people. Their language is one of at least 16 Bantu languages in the Bongwe cluster. The language shift among these groups seems to be towards a more united language. Historically, the Ngumbi are one of the 18 Ndowe tribal groups. They live primarily on the coast of Equatorial Guinea along an 80 km stretch, from the city of Bata in the north to the city of Mbini in the south.

What Are Their Lives Like?

They are peaceful fishers and hunter-gatherers.

What Are Their Beliefs?

As a result of the Spanish colonization, the large majority of the Kombe are nominally Roman Catholic. But few have personally accepted the gospel. The New Testament was translated in the mid 1900s and last published in 1975.

What Are Their Needs?

There is a possible need for revision of the New Testament, as well as for educators (literacy and general), church planting and evangelism. They still lack the Old Testament.

Prayer Points

Pray for a complete Bible for the Kombe speaking peoples such as the Ngumbis.
Pray for them to have an experience with the Holy Spirit that will draw them closer to the Lord of lords.
Pray for them to soon send out evangelists and disciplers.
Pray for the Lord to raise up Kombe people who can effectively use music and drama for evangelism.
