The Ije, also known as the Holi or Ohori, are a Yoruba-related people living primarily in southeastern Benin. They belong to the larger Yoruba cultural family but have maintained their own language and distinct identity through generations of life among neighboring peoples. Their language, Ede Ije, is one of several Yoruba language varieties spoken in Benin.
Living near important trade routes and neighboring ethnic groups has allowed the Ije to preserve many of their traditions while also adapting to changing political and economic conditions. Although they share many customs with other Yoruba peoples, they continue to maintain a strong local identity rooted in their own history and community life.

The Ije need greater access to biblical teaching in the language and cultural setting they understand best. Strong local churches and mature Christian leaders can help believers grow in their faith while lovingly addressing questions that arise from traditional religious practices.
Communities also benefit from educational opportunities, economic development, and ministries that demonstrate Christ's compassion through practical service.
