Shenva, Hindu traditions in India

Joshua Project has identified the Shenva, Hindu traditions only in India

Largest Religion

Main Language

The Shenva are a Scheduled Caste in the state of Gujarat, which entitles them to certain government benefits. They are mainly landless laborers. They make mats and brooms out of leaves of wild date-palm and small ropes from the fiber of hibiscus esculentus. They also remove carcasses and skin them, a very degrading job. The community has clan deities who are worshipped on festivities and during life-cycle ceremonies. Some in the community are followers of Ram Dev Pir.

Ministry Obstacles

Spiritual things are spiritually discerned, or understood. Please pray the Lord will give these people understanding as the Gospel comes to them.

Outreach Ideas

Please pray for workers to come to the Hindu Shenva people, workers who are able to communicate well the good news about Jesus Christ. Pray for their encouragement and protection and provision.

Pray for the Followers of Christ

A small number of the Shenva people have identified themselves as Christians to the Indian census. This is very encouraging. Please pray these Christians will be properly instructed in the ways of Christ, and will live holy lives in the power of the Lord's Spirit. Pray they will represent Christ well to their families and friends.

Pray for the Entire People Group

Pray for better employment opportunities for these people. They also need to improve their vocational skills so they will be qualified for these better positions.
