The name Khalpa is derived from the word khal, meaning skin. The traditional occupations of the Khalpa are skinning cattle and working as laborers. Today, many are employed in other jobs related to farming and livestock production. Some repair musical instruments which are played in the temples during worship. They use their community name or "Rohit" as their surname. The different clans have their own clan deities, such as Kalkamata, Bhawanima, Khodiarma, Bahuchara, and so on. The Gaur Brahman are their community priests, but sometimes the local Brahmans also serve them.
This community lives in the state of Gujarat, a "focal point for religious tensions and persecution".
Perhaps workers who are seeking to take the Gospel to every home in India will be successful in reaching the homes of the Khalpa people group. Pray that this will be accomplished.
