Introduction / History

The Cogui are located in the North Coast of Colombia in the Sierra Nevada mountain range near Santa Marta.

What are Their Lives Like?

They are mostly subsistence farmers with some hunting and gathering to supplement their crops. They live in round houses with straw roofs and often have no schools or clinics in the villages. The villages are located high in the mountains, far from the nearest road and only reachable by mule or by foot. The girls are usually married at age twelve and the boys by age fifteen to eighteen

What are Their Beliefs?

They follow traditional worship of the spirits of the land and mountains, led by Mamos (traditional priests)

What are Their Needs?

They have just received the translation of the complete new testament in their language, but the tribe is still for the most part unreached.
