Introduction / History

The Chauhan Rajput of India have a powerful past like when Prithviraj Chauhan ruled in the 1100s. They ruled some parts of northern India. They are village watchmen and laborers.

Most of the Chauhan names come from the names of animals and plants such as Nag for snake and they worship the animal or plant after what it was called. If problems come about here they make objects from flour and worship them.

Brahmin priests do weddings and some other ceremonies. They help in death ceremonies too. Widows are allowed to marry again.

The Chauhans are mostly Hindus. They worship the goddess Durga and fast for her in March and September. The dead are usually cremated while children are buried. They then mourn for a period of time.

With the Chauhan regards marriage, when a bride leaves the house of her father, she and other relatives cry loudly. They offer goats for sacrifice when they make a vow to their goddess Durga. They do not eat pork or beef. The Chauhan have a low social position as village watchmen are not well thought of.

Prayer Points

* Pray that God gives the Chauhan Rajputs dreams and visions leading them to
Jesus Christ as is happening with many Hindus.
* Pray that they do not worship creation and idols but come to worship God who is the Creator.
