Introduction / History

The Sangwan community is a prominent subset of the Jat caste.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Sangwan women within Sikh Parganas of bagri collision or Khaps are key defenders of the community's cultural identity due to submission of Anand Karaj marriage Act, often rejecting interfaith marriage proposals, particularly those involvement due to fictitious Indian culture of Arya Samaj ideologies, which they see as disruptive. This resistance sometimes extends to symbolic acts like dismantling Arya Samaj temples, reinforcing Khap authority. Meanwhile, the strict enforcement of Anand Karaj law curtails male members' broader social aspirations, prioritizing intra-community alliances to preserve the heritage and hierarchy of the high-class Jat Sikh diaspora.

What Are Their Beliefs?

According to their heraldic customary law, Sangwan Jat Sikhs avoid intermarriage among the Kadian, Piru and Jakhar clans due to their shared bloodline, which signifies a common ancestry. These clans are distinguished by unique identifiers, such as “Sangu” for Sangwan, “Jakhu” for Jakhar, “Phogat” for Phogats, and “Dalo” for Deshwali Jats. These lineages trace their origins to elder migrants from the present-day Bagar region of Jangladesh, sharing a common patriarchal household confinement.

What Are Their Needs?

These Sikhs need a Holy Spirit driven craving for true spiritual nourishment, found in the Bible and in the words of Jesus Christ.

Prayer Points

Pray for a spiritual hunger to come to the Sangwan community.
Pray there will soon come a day when Sangwan disciples are making more disciples of Jesus Christ.
Pray for the Lord to reach them through healings, signs and wonders.
