Introduction / History

The Nen people occupy Bimadeben village, located forty-six kilometers northeast of Morehead station, just west of the Idi language area. The Nen people cultivate gardens. Their diet consists of yam, taro, sweet potato, sago, greens, and fruits (coconuts, bananas, pineapples, and papayas). They also fish, hunt deer and wallaby, and raise chickens.

The Nen people build their houses on poles, raised about six to ten feet above the ground. The roofs and walls are made of bark.

The Evangelical Church of Papua New Guinea is active in Bimadeben. Most of the people would call themselves Christians, but the pastor reported that many are nominal in their faith.
