Eveleen walked into the tailor shop with a bag and a frown on her face. She dropped the bag and said, "Balkar, how did this happen? You said my dress would be ready last week, and it wasn't! My niece's wedding is in a few days, and the dress is too big!" Deeply concerned, the Sikh Darzi tailor calmly replied, "Dear Eveleen, please forgive me! I will make it right."
Eveleen knew he was a man of his word, so her frown gave way to a relieved smile. She replied, "Balkar, I know things happen. I'm sorry to be so impatient and angry. You and your brother work long, hard hours in this shop. Your work is usually very good. In fact, some say you are the finest Darzi (tailor) in this section of Ludhiana, Punjab. You are a godly man; I know you will correct this mistake." Balkar replied, "Only God our creator is perfect. The better we use the talents He gives us, the better we represent Him."
There are about 36,000 Darzi Sikhs that live primarily in the Punjab State of India.
Their traditional trade is tailoring, and many still do this just as their ancestors did many years ago.
Pray that loving and patient believers will talk with the Darzi Sikhs about knowing God through Christ. May they soon rejoice in accepting God's mercy, forgiveness, and gift of salvation in Jesus, and give thanks for Him to their Creator.
