Malagasy refers to any number of ethnic groups from Madagascar. They have diaspora populations in nearby Reunion, Mauritius and Mayotte. Surprisingly, the largest number live in France. Others are in Canada or the United States.
No matter where they live, the Malagasy people love Malagasy kabary. This is a form of public speaking which involves poetry and proverbs. Usually, it involves two prominent men speaking in a dialogue format. They use it not only for entertainment, but also for public announcements and for funerals. They can last hours or for only 10 minutes. They bring the Malagasy community together emotionally and socially.
Most of the Malagasy people allowed into Canada are from the educated elite. They can be university students or businessmen.
Though there is a Roman Catholic element to Malagasy spirituality, most also worship their ancestral spirits like they have for generations.
The Malagasy people need to put all their faith in Jesus Christ rather than religious institutions and ancestral spirits.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to move mightily in churches attended by Malagasy people, drawing them to the cross.
Pray for Malagasy people who love the Lord to disciple others and send them out as Christ’s ambassadors.
Pray for the Lord to provide for their needs according to his abundant love.
