The Cimbrian are a group of Germanic people who settled in Italy beginning about 1050 A.D. and continuing through the next two centuries. They are distinct from another group called Cimbri who lived in the area about 200 B.C. Their language, Cimbrian, is related to Bavarian and is considered an endangered language because of the widespread use of Italian and the influence of nearby Venetian.
Cimbrian cuisine includes dishes like speck, polenta, and various types of bread. The people maintain a strong sense of cultural identity, celebrating their history in music and dance. They are known for their craftsmanship in woodworking and the textile arts.
The Cimbrians are primarily Roman Catholic, maintaining unique cultural traditions and rituals influenced by their historic roots, and often combining folk beliefs and customs with the Catholic faith. Local saints and religious figures are celebrated in their traditions. Although a small minority, evangelicals have increased amongst the Cimbrian people, often through their engagement in community service and outreach.
Employment opportunities are limited in the mountainous regions where they live. The population is aging. There are problems with preservation of their unique culture and language while also becoming integrated into the broader Italian society.
Pray that the Cimbrian people will increasingly look to the Bible as their guide.
Pray that the Cimbrian church may become strong, based on the Scriptures, so that it may take its place in the great missionary task.
Praise God for the growth of Bible believing Christians in their midst.
Pray that the Cimbrian people will be fully converted to Christ—born again.
