Introduction / History

The Bengas are one of the 14 Ndowe people groups living along the coast of Equatorial Guinea. Their traditional home is Corisco island and Elobey Grande and the mouth of the mighty Rio Muni estuary and the south coast of EG.

What Are Their Lives Like?

They are a peaceful and friendly group of coastal fishermen, sailors and merchants. For economic reasons the vast majority of the Benga left Corisco island.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Most Benga people are Christian, but few are dedicated to the ways of Christ.

What Are Their Needs?

Presbyterian missionaries from USA began work among the Benga in 1854. The last missionary left Benga during WWII, in 1943, but the tiny Protestant church started by the missionaries still hangs on. The New Testament was printed in 1893, followed by 18 books of the Old Testament between 1899 and 1902. They now have a complete Bible in their Benga language.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Bengas to have easy access not only to the Benga Bible, but also any oral gospel materials.
Pray for the Lord to touch Bengas in such a way they will feel compelled to disciple others.
Pray for them to be blessed spiritually and financially, giving them hearts filled with praise and adoration for the King of kings.
