Introduction / History

The Chasot or Sadgope live in West Bengal. Chasot means tillers of land as their traditional work has been cultivation. They speak, read and write in Bengali. They are not vegetarians.

The Chasot use a dowry in marriage. Marrying again is allowed. There are birth and marriage rituals. The dead are cremated except for those who were not married and they are buried.

Many of the Chasot own land and work in agriculture and small businesses. Hinduism is their religion. Education does not usually go beyond secondary level. They use modern medicines and family planning.

Prayer Points

* Pray that Indian Christians who speak Bengali will lead the Chasot to Jesus Christ.
* Pray that gospel materials will lead them to salvation.
