Introduction / History

The Kollan of Kerala speak, read and write in Malayalam. They are not vegetarians and eat rice as a cereal.

The Kollan are now monogamous. They prefer cross-cousin marriages by discussion. There are birth and marriage rituals. Marrying again is allowed. The dead are buried or cremated. On the death of the father, the oldest son becomes in charge of the home.

The Kollan are traditionally blacksmiths but now many work in agriculture, as laborers, in business or office work. Hinduism is their religion. Their children are educated. They use family planning and modern medicines. They have an organization that looks after them.

The Kollan live in Karnataka too. There they read and write in Kannada. Some of them have become goldsmiths.

Prayer Points

Pray that the leaders of the Kollan come to Jesus Christ and lead others to Him.
* Pray that gospel materials and the internet will lead them to salvation.
