Introduction / History

The Thengal live in Assam and speak, read and write in Assamese. They are not vegetarians and eat rice as a cereal.

The Thengal have many clans. They practice the custom of providing a bride price. Divorce and marrying again are allowed. They have rituals. The dead are cremated. On the death of the father, sons inherit the property.

The Thengal traditionally were washers of silver but now they work mainly in agriculture. The women are good at weaving. Hinduism is their religion but they have local religions too. Bihu is the most important festival for them. There is a village council to look after them. Government development programs have benefited them.

Prayer Points

* Pray that Indian Christians will lead the Thengal to Jesus Christ.
* Pray that the council leaders come to salvation and lead others to Jesus Christ.
