Introduction / History

The Kunbi Lewa live in Gujarat and Maharashtra. They read and write in Devanagari and speak Marathi. The men are not vegetarians but the women are vegetarians. They eat jowar as a cereal.

The Kunbi Lewa prefer marriages between cousins. Divorce is allowed if the marriage is unsuitable. Divorcees and the bereaved can marry again. They have birth and marriage rituals. The dead are cremated.

They have an association to look after them. They are Hindus and they worship ancestors.
