Introduction / History

The Namdev Maratha migrated from Maharashtra to Tamil Nadu. They speak Marathi and Tamil and read and write in Tamil. They are not vegetarians and eat rice as a cereal.

The Namdev Maratha have cousin marriages among them. Marriage is by negotiating. They are monogamous. The bereaved can marry again. On the death of the father, sons inherit the property with the oldest son becoming in charge of the home. They have birth and marriage rituals. The dead are cremated or buried.

The Namdev Maratha are tailors and dyers, some are laborers. They have a caste association to look after them. Hinduism is their religion. They believe in education and use modern medicine and other benefits from the government too.

Prayer Points

* Pray that leaders of the caste association come to Jesus Christ and lead others to Him.
* Pray that gospel materials will lead them to salvation.
