Introduction / History

The Bhuiya are a scheduled caste in Bihar and West Bengal. Their name means owner of soil. They have a low literacy level so the gospel will need to be given in oral form.

In Bihar they speak Magahi and Hindi. They are not vegetarians and eat wheat and rice. They are mainly landless. Some work as laborers and some do other work. They have six groups including the Ghatwar. Modern medicine is used by them. Hinduism is their religion.

In West Bengal they speak in Bengali and Hindi. Agriculture and laboring are their main work.

In Uttar Pradesh they speak in Hindi. They used to be nomads. Agriculture is their main work.

Prayer Points
