Introduction / History

They converted to Islam from among the Gond tribe about 300 years ago. They are also called Dao Muslim Jamat. The Muslim Raj Gonds live mainly in Nagpur in Maharashtra. Some live in Madhya Pradesh.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Muslim Raj Gond are mainly endogamous (they prefer marriages within the community) but no longer use clan exogamy (marrying someone from a different clan). Urdu is now their preferred language.

What Are Their Beliefs?

They are connected to Tableeghi Jamat or Tablighi Jamaat, a Sunni Islam missionary organization. The Tablighi Jamaat encourage those they influence to return to the ways of early Sunni Islam, specifically in regards to clothing, rituals and outward behavior.

What Are Their Needs?

The Muslim Raj Gonds need a sin-free Savior to offer them abundant life.
