Introduction / History

The Mavchi Bhil are a Scheduled Tribe of Maharashtra. They speak Mavchi and are not vegetarians.

Marriages are not allowed with their three previous generations. They have cross cousin marriages. Gavit is the surname used by them. The word Gavit means leader.

The Mavchi work mainly in agriculture and agricultural laboring. Some are teachers. They are mainly Hindus. Holi is their main festival. There are Mavchi Christians too, who cooperate with the Hindus. They use family planning.

Prayer Points

* Pray that Indian Christians will lead the Mavchi Bhil to Jesus Christ.
* Pray that God will give them dreams and visions leading them to salvation.
