Introduction / History

The Dangri live in Maharashtra. They speak Marathi and read and write in Devanagari. They are not vegetarians. Their name is related to watermelons as their traditional occupation is the cultivation of watermelons.

The Dangri allow cousin marriages. Marriage is by discussion. Divorce is dealt with by family members. They have birth and marriage rituals. The dead are cremated. On the death of the father, sons inherit the property.

The Dangri work mostly as farmers now. Vegetables are grown and sold by them. Hinduism is their religion. They have an Association to look after them. Their literacy level is low, so the gospel will need to be given in oral form too.

Prayer Points

* Pray that the Association leaders come to Jesus Christ and lead others to Him.
* Pray that gospel recordings will lead them to salvation.
