Introduction / History

The Uriankhai Altai are a Mongolian tribe from the Altai mountains. They are now a sub-group in West Mongolia.

Uriankhai is a Mongolian term used for forest ethnic groups. Uriankhai means uria which is a war motto.

They were said to have been first heard of in the seventh century. There has been migration among them and they have been under the rule of others. They speak Oirat Mongolian. Tibetan Buddhism and Shamanism are their religions.

The Uriankhai Altai have strict customs. Marriages are arranged among young people. Brides are introduced to family members and respect is shown to each other. They believe it takes nine generations for the blood to be cleared and so they marry away from the family.

Prayer Points

* Pray that Mongolian Christians will lead the Uriankhai Altai to Jesus Christ.
* Pray that gospel materials will lead them to salvation.
