Introduction / History

The Porwal (also called Porvad or Porwad) are a community of Banias who long ago were great in number and in riches. They built many of the most famous Jain temples. Now other Jain communities are larger and wealthier than the Porwals.

What Are Their Lives Like?

They are still a wealthy people, but their numbers have fallen when compared to the other groups around them.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Many are Jains, but most are Hindu. Jainism began as a reformist version of Hinduism. For that reason, one cannot use a blanket statement to describe the religious beliefs of the Porwal Bania community.

What Are Their Needs?

The Porwal Bania people need to see Christ high and lifted up. He is the only one who can offer them the spiritual guidance they need for eternal life.

Prayer Points

Pray that the Porwal people will soon get to hear the good news that Jesus Christ died for their sins.
Pray for the Lord to thrust out the right workers to the Porwal Bania community.
Pray for many from the Bania community to embrace the only savior no matter what the cost.
