Introduction / History

Most Chinese came to live in Kenya at the end of the last century and early this century. Most of them live in the capital Nairobi. There are many Chinese restaurants in Nairobi. Many live near the Chinese embassy. Chinese also live in the second largest Kenyan city Mombasa. They speak Chinese. Many are middle aged Chinese who live in Kenya.

Chinese have import/export businesses in Kenya. Some have clothing factories. There are difficulties between Chinese and Kenyan workers. While there is respect for Chinese engineers building roads and buildings, in the remote regions of the country Chinese engineers are in danger of being attacked.

In Kenya there is a Chinese community school. The Kenyan Broadcasting Corporation broadcasts Chinese radio and television.
