Introduction / History

A hush fell over a Kalapalo family as each person simultaneously looked to the darkening sky for "The Shadow." This shadow was the spirit of their deceased patriarch, coming to visit his grieving family for the last time before he traveled east (in the direction of the sunrise) to forever live in the village of the dead.

These completely unreached people are prime for missionaries to bring the gospel for two reasons. First, God has uniquely prepared this people to receive the Messiah through their own indigenous folklore, which includes a creator of all things (Kwatini), and a female savior figure from whom all men originally came (Sakefenu). In addition, they believe that upon death, all men travel to an eternal village in the sky where the sun rises. God has already placed eternity in their hearts, and missionaries can introduce Kwatini and Sakefenu to them as God the Father, and Jesus Christ, the firstborn of all Creation.

Secondly, through no effort of their own, the Kalapalo Indians of Central Brazil live in a national reserve that is protected on all sides and has been completely isolated from the Brazilian social and economic influences that reach almost every other tribe. Thus, their culture is undisturbed by the outside world and surrounding tribes, which gives missionaries a clean slate to start introducing the gospel.

Prayer Points

Pray for God to raise up a team to bring the gospel to this truly unreached people group.
