Introduction / History

Sorkhei is the language of a people group in Iran by the same name. They live in northern Iran near the Caspian Sea. Most likely the language of this small tribe will be replaced in the coming decades by Farsi, the trade language of Iran.

What Are Their Lives Like?

We know little about the lifestyle of the Sorkheis, but it is probably similar to the people who live nearby. They live near the sea, so they likely obtain some of their food through fishing. Many people herd livestock, sometimes semi-nomadically. Since they are Muslim, they have the same Islamic family and marriage customs of others in their area.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Sorkheis are entirely Muslim.

What Are Their Needs?

The Sorkheis need to hear the gospel, but they don t have a Bible translation. Their language is dying, so it s possible it will take a couple of generations before they are settled with Farsi as their first language.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Lord to speed the day when the Sorkheis have the chance to hear of the wonderful grace of Jesus.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to prepare the hearts of Sorkhei leaders to welcome those who bear the gospel.
Pray for the Lord to raise up the right people to translate the Bible into the Sorkhei language.
Pray for the Lord to thrust out the right people to go to them.
