Introduction / History

The Vathiriyan are labeled a scheduled caste, which means they do not have good status, but they are not at the bottom of the Hindu social hierarchy. They live in southern Tamil Nadu and speak Tamil.

What Are Their Lives Like?

In 2018 they went to court to not be considered part of the Devendrakula people. This controversy was still alive in 2021. They have their own culture, traditions and even religious practices. These, they say, set them apart from other communities.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Vathiriyan worship Lord Perumal along with other Hindu gods and goddesses.

What Are Their Needs?

There are thousands of vibrant Christ followers in Tamil Nadu who can reach the Vathiriyan community for Christ.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Lord to bless the Vathiriyan people so abundantly that they will see he is the only one worthy of praise and worship.
Pray for loving workers to go to the Vathiriyan people until there are disciples who make more disciples.
Pray the Lord will prepare the hearts of the Vathiriyan to understand and to believe the gospel.
Pray for the Lord to bless the Vathiriyan people with adequate education and medical facilities.
