Introduction / History

The Saora of India are a Scheduled Tribe. They speak Saora and are mostly Hindus. The Saora also live in Bihar, Maharashtra and Odisha. Others live in Bangladesh and Nepal.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Saora are not vegetarians. Their food comes from rice, millet and ragi (a cereal grass). They are cultivators, but some weave bags and mats. Traditional village councils judge in matters such as financial and social ones.
In Andhra Pradesh the Saora trace their lineage through males. In Madhya Pradesh they are wood cutters and laborers.

What Are Their Beliefs?

In West Bengal, some Saora are Muslims. In Odisha, there are many who have become Christians. Yet the vast majority are Hindus.

What Are Their Needs?

Their literacy level tends to be low so the gospel message will need to be given in oral form and not just in written form.

Prayer Points

Pray for families of believers loving and serving others to grow reproducing Saora churches.
Pray for a chain reaction of Saora families reaching families that results in thousands of new believers who share their faith with others.
Pray for grace and truth expanding into the entire Saora society as all believers learn to love others.
Pray that churches and believers will bless their entire people group in such a way that God's love will change the Saora people like yeast changes dough.
