Introduction / History

The Rachavar or Raju live in Karnataka in India. Their name comes from the word Raja which means king. They speak Telugu and Kannada and read and write in Kannada. They are not vegetarians and eat rice as a cereal.

The Rachavar have cousin marriages but divorce and widows marrying again are not allowed. Property is shared evenly among the sons upon the death of the father and the oldest son takes charge of the home. There are birth and marriage rituals. Their main work is in agriculture and also government and private work. A community association looks after them. Hinduism is their religion. They have their children educated.

Some of them live in Tamil Nadu where they also speak, read and write in Tamil. Many own land. Some also live in Andhra Pradesh.

Prayer Points

* Pray that the leaders of the community association will come to Jesus Christ and lead others to Him.
* Pray that gospel materials will lead them to Salvation too.
