Introduction / History

The Patni Jamat live in southern Gujarat, Maharashtra, and over the western border in Pakistan. They originated from a town in Gujarat called Patan. They speak Gujarati, Urdu and Hindi. Many live in Mumbai as well.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Patni Jamat are fish merchants and traders. They manage fish shops, and export fish to other parts of the world. Some have gone into transportation work. Many Patni Jamat people have left India to pursue education and new economic opportunities. They have many clans who intermarry and have equal status.

What Are Their Beliefs?

This is a Sunni Muslim community. These people fear and worship Allah, the only God in Islam. They believe that obedience to Allah will provide them with safety and a good life.

What Are Their Needs?

The Patni Jamat need to experience how Jesus Christ can provide their community with abundant blessings. Bible resources exist in their spoken language, Gujarati, but they are not readily available to Patni Jamat people. Who will tell them?

Prayer Points

Pray that as the Patni Jamat hear about Jesus that they will be drawn to Him and allow Him to be their Savior.
Pray that God will give them dreams and visions leading them to a movement to Christ.
Pray for faithful intercessors and workers.
Pray for a disciple making movement among them this decade.
