Introduction / History

The Mawasi are a Scheduled Caste who live in the hills of Madhya Pradesh in India. The word meaning of Mawasi is a combination of we and resident. They speak Hindi and read and write in Devanagari.

The Mawasi are not vegetarians but do not eat beef. Mustard oil is used for cooking by them. They eat rice as a cereal and drink milk and tea. They smoke beedis which is a South Asian cigarette. There are a number of clans among them. Marriage is done by discussion.

The Mawasi are cultivators and agricultural laborers. Some of them hunt. Younger ones have become laborers. They have councils to look after them. Their literacy level is low, so the gospel will need to be given in oral form too.

Prayer Points

* Pray that gospel recordings will help lead the Mawasi to Jesus Christ.
* Pray that the council leaders will come to Jesus Christ and lead others to Him.
