Introduction / History

The Malto live mainly in Bihar and West Bengal. They speak Mal Paharia among themselves and Hindi and read and write in Devanagari.

What Are Their Lives Like?

They are not vegetarians and eat wheat and rice as cereals. The Malto work in cultivation and other work. Some are teachers and politicians. Boys are educated but girls are not.
They allow for divorce and remarriage. Like other Hindus they cremate their dead. On the death of the father, sons inherit the property with the oldest son taking charge of the family estate.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Hinduism is their religion. They have their own rituals.

What Are Their Needs?

The Malto people have a Christian community, but they need discipleship. Some of them should go to other peoples in eastern India.

Prayer Points

Pray for Malto Christ followers to share their faith with others in eastern India.
Pray that gospel materials will lead them to Jesus Christ.
Pray that God will give them dreams and visions leading them to salvation.
