Introduction / History

The Khatbe live in Bihar. Many of them live in the Darbhanga and Madhubani regions. They speak Maithili and Hindi and read and write in Devanagari.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Khatbe are mostly agricultural laborers. Most are not vegetarians and they eat maize, rice, and wheat as cereals. Marriages are arranged by family leaders. They have monogamous marriages meaning that marriage is between one man and one woman. They do not allow for divorce, but the bereaved can marry again. Sons inherit the property on the death of the father with the oldest son taking charge of the home.

What Are Their Beliefs?

They are Hindus.

What Are Their Needs?

The Khatbe people need to experience the abundant life offered only by Jesus Christ.

Prayer Points

Pray that Indian believers will help lead the Khatbes to put their faith in Jesus Christ alone. Pray that gospel materials will lead them to begin their own disciple making movement. Pray for spiritual openness.
