Introduction / History

The Karenga or Karanga live in West Bengal. Their name is related to those who castrate goats and bullocks. They speak, read and write in Bengali. They are not vegetarians and they eat rice as a cereal.

The Karenga have sub groups and clans. They work as carpenters, castrate goats and bullocks and work in agriculture. The women help by selling jewellery.

The Karenga are Hindus. They use modern medicines. Their literacy level is low, so the gospel will need to be given in oral form too.
