Dagi people live either in Delhi or Himachal Pradesh. The latter state is highly mountainous.
Their traditional occupation was to play musical instruments at festivals and celebrations, but many of them now engage in farming. Economically they are not doing well, partially because they have a low literacy rate. They have migrated to different parts of northern India for economic reasons.
There are Tibetan Buddhists in Himachal Pradesh, and the Dagi form of Hinduism includes some Buddhist elements. Like animistic peoples, they appease local spirits.
Living in one of India’s most gospel deprived areas, the Dagi people live and die without having the chance to encounter the one who offers life to the full.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to cause a spiritual breakthrough among the Dagi people.
Pray for Indian Christians to move heaven and earth to go to the Dagi people with the gospel.
Pray for Hindi gospel resources to become widely distributed in Dagi communities.
