Introduction

The Bhat are known for their 'phakra ' (speaking poetically in praise of others). Their women wear vermilion and iron bangles as marriage symbols. They are mainly a landowning community. Muslim Bhat are Hindu converts to Islam. The Muslim Bhat place themselves in the higher order of Muslim communities. Regarding their funeral practices, the kalima and some verses from the Quran are recited in the ears of a dying person.

Ministry Obstacles

The fact that there is little intermarriage between the Shia and Sunni sects within the community shows that they are serious about their beliefs and will probably be resistant to any non-Muslim influence.

Outreach Ideas

Pray that Christians in the tribes near the Muslim Bhat will be prompted by the Lord to take the good news of Christ to these people. Pray they will be able to overcome tribal hostilities.

Pray for the Followers of Christ

There are no known Christians among the Muslim Bhat in India or Pakistan. But pray for the many the Lord will soon lead to himself in these countries. Pray they will soon see Jesus as deity, the very Son of God.

Pray for the Entire People Group

Pray this small community will be able to live in harmony with their neighbors, especially their Hindu neighbors.
