The Tetela, specifically the Sungu subgroup, live across central and eastern regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo, speaking Tetela, a Bantu language. They are a major people group within the broader Central-Congo affinity bloc.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Tetela family life is strongly communal, with extended households forming the basis of economic and social interaction. Subsistence farming remains a primary livelihood for many, cultivating staples such as cassava, plantains, and groundnuts. Local markets are hubs of trade and social exchange, while community festivals, feasts, and traditional music and dance remain important in marking life's milestones and celebrations.

What Are Their Beliefs?
