Introduction / History

Somalis first came to Finland as asylum seekers in the 1990s, some coming from Russia. They came to Finland as it is nearby. As time went on more and more asylum seekers began to come here.

It has been hard for Somalis to find work in Finland and there are only a few Somali businesses in Finland. Many Somalis have gone into education to help them get employment in this country.

More Somali asylum seekers have come to Finland through family unification.

Somalis and the local Finnish people have had problems between them and this has said to have caused employers to refuse the Somalis work. The economic situation has been a problem with them finding work also. There has been some improvement as some Somalis have found work amongst their own people. Some have found employment through Somali language work and others have found short term work.

Somalis are one of the largest immigrant groups in Finland. They speak Somali and Finnish. Islam is their religion.

Prayer Points

Pray that the problems Somalis are having will lead them to Jesus Christ.
Pray that God will give them dreams and visions leading them to Salvation too.
