Introduction / History

Slovakia was part of Czechoslovakia until it became an independent country in 1993. The Slovak language has some similarities to Czech but is different.

The Slovak diaspora is in just about all European countries, such as the United Kingdom.

What Are Their Lives Like?

To maintain their culture in the United Kingdom, Slovaks engage in their own folk music. They love going to movies and making pottery. Favorite foods among the Slovaks include cabbage soup and dumplings with cheese. Their favorite sports include soccer, ice hockey and tennis.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Most Slovaks are traditional Catholics and many are atheists. Others adhere to religious rituals and New Age practices to fill the spiritual void.

What Are Their Needs?

Those in the diaspora need to learn a new language and how to deal with their daily needs. It is harder for the elderly among them to adjust.

Prayer Points

Pray that the religious traditionalists and even atheists will come to a living relationship with Jesus Christ.
Pray for Slovaks in the United Kingdom to look to God for all their spiritual and material needs.
Pray for the Slovakian Church to take up its role of being Christ’s ambassador to the lost.
Pray for Slovak Christians to disciple others to disciple entire families.
